Optimal dramatic effects
The Sonata for flute and violoncello (1984) was commissioned by the Armenian Ministry of Culture. The first performance was given by the principals of the Armenian Symphony Orchestra during the Congress of the Armenian Composers Union.
The expressive voice of the alto flute in G (alternating with passages with the regular flute in C) and its interaction with the intensity of the violoncello voice provides optimal dramatic effects within the context of the serious, indeed sober, nature of the musical dialog.
